Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing treatment used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face neck or hands. A solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually slough off. This results in new regenerated skin that is usually smoother, less wrinkles, and more even.
So what happens if you get a peel but don't peel? Not to worry! Improvements in the texture, tone and overall appearance of the skin still take place whether or not peeling occurs. So if you don't turn into a snake - it's all good, it's still working! If you do experience peeling, do not prematurely pick at the skin. It is vulnerable and doing so can cause more damage. Let it be, let it be and and soon enough that new regenerated skin will come through.
There are three grades or levels of chemical peels including
- Superficial (Level 1)
- Medium to Medium - Deep (Levels 1-2)
- Deep (Level 3)
As a licensed esthetician I offer superficial to medium depth peels.
Superficial peels are often referred to as "lunchtime" peels because of little to no downtime. They are customized to address minor skin concerns like discoloration, acne, surface scarring, fine lines, and sun spots.
Medium depth peels go past the superficial layer of the skin to address more advanced skin concerns of discoloration, acne, surface scarring, fine lines, and sun spots. Can be referred to as a Jessner, or TCA peel.
Deep peels address the lower dermis and are performed by a physician. They can have extensive downtime but also offer dramatic skin resurfacing.
